How This Year’s Goal Was Successfully Accomplished

point fermin, ocean, san pedro, it is a perfect place to go for a run

Four months ago when I suspended my BQ training, I had no idea how everything would turn out. What was going through my mind is hard to describe. Disappointment and discouragement can’t describe it all but close. My both feet were in pain, let alone the tight left hamstring and the bad right knee. Read More…

Week 11 – Endurance

sunset, daily run, training, marathon training, endurance building, one day at a time, enjoy the sunset, bike path, over baseball field, night watch,

What began as a well planned out week resulted in a rather disappointing end. Because the weekend’s long run was supposed to be a 20 miler, I wanted to reschedule the runs throughout the week leading up to Sunday, and it went pretty good till Saturday when I hit the gym. And then the inevitable Sunday long run time came and I learned that things could unfold unexpectedly. Read More…

Week 10 – Motivation, Challenges and Bounce Back

Baldwin hill entrance, interval running, interval hill running, hill running, lactate threshold, 220 yards, shower, sprinkles, overcast, cloudy, after work, view of mountains across LA, crazy clouds, ominous, rainy, pouring rain somewhere,

This past week had some challenges. One of those days when the level of self-motivation hits the bottom snuck up on me in the middle of the week. It was heavily influenced by the serious long day at work, and even though I bounced right back up and caught up with the next day’s mileage, the pressure on keeping up with the weekly mileage was mounting. Week 9 – Endurance Building, 600-Mile Milestone and 18 Mile Weekend Run

sunset, daily run, training, marathon training, endurance building, one day at a time, enjoy the sunset, bike path, over baseball field, night watch,

Another week for building endurance came and went. As far as how it went down, I must say it was very productive. I exceeded my weekly mileage by 4.5 miles, even after the 18 mile weekend long run. I pushed myself running 7.25 miles 3 days in a row to build endurance. I also remembered to look back at the half marathon time that I had at the Duke City Marathon in ABQ, NM back in 2009, and it was quite interesting to see how far I’ve come in the past less than 6 years. And I am 100 miles closer to this year’s 1,100 mile goal than 18 days ago. Read More…

Month in Review – May: Endurance Building and Speed Training

month in review, marathon training, training,

The month of May meant endurance and speed training. As I look back, it swung by so fast that it felt like it disappeared in a blink of an eye. But as fast-paced as it came and went, I am glad that the progress that I made was not insignificant – laying down another layer of solid foundation called endurance. And the cool temperature helped in a great deal. Read More…

7th Week of 20-Week Training and Running After Dark

sunset, 16 miles, training, marathon, marathon training, running, long miles, miles,

This week has been very cooperative in terms of weather. The temperature stayed cool mostly throughout the week. As the days are getting longer, the sun is still up even after my long days at work. So it was nice to have a cooler temperature to run. And because this past weekend was another long run weekend, part of me was a bit anxious about it, so I mostly focused on endurance building throughout the week leading up to it. Read More…

6th Week of 20-Week Training, Rain and Glutes

rain, socal, training, downpour, lily, marathon, marathon training, interval, interval running, parking lot,

What a week! On the workfront, a couple of long days at work somehow made the entire week feel like never-ending. And the downpour that came and got us all excited about last Thursday meant that I was not able to do my usual evening run. But that is not how the past week went down at the end. Read More…
